Phases of Training

  1. Teaching Phase
In this initial phase, the focus is on teaching the desired behaviors and clearly demonstrating the expectations to the dog. This foundational stage ensures the dog understands what is required.

  2. Correction Phase
During the correction phase, the dog is held accountable to the established standards. This stage emphasizes teaching the dog to take responsibility for its actions, encouraging better decision-making and reinforcing the learned behaviors.

  3. Conditioning Phase
The conditioning phase involves consistent practice of the learned behaviors to establish them as automatic responses. More critically, this phase aims to solidify an improved state of mind, making it the dog’s default behavior.

  4. Proofing Phase
In the proofing phase, the dog’s newly acquired behaviors and mental state are tested under various distractions and competing stimuli. This ensures the dog remains focused and compliant with obedience commands despite external influences.

  5. Generalization Phase
The generalization phase focuses on applying the learned behaviors across diverse environmental settings. This stage ensures the dog’s obedience remains consistent and reliable in any location or situation.

  6. Testing Phase
The testing phase evaluates the effectiveness of the dog’s training in real-world, everyday scenarios. It also identifies any deficiencies or areas requiring further improvement to ensure the training is practical, functional and robust.
